Golden Milk Latte

Anti-inflammatory Latte? YES PLEASE!  I just made my first golden milk, or turmeric latte, and it was AWESOME!

How to make Golden Milk

INGREDIENTS

1 tbsp. of fresh grated ginger (dried is OK too)

1 tbsp. of fresh grated turmeric (dried is OK too)

a pinch of nutmeg

a pinch of cinnamon

a pinch of cardamon

2 cups of almond milk

1 cup of coconut milk

*You can skip the almond milk & coconut milk & use just water too, it’s not as rich. If you like the taste of cloves add a dash.

DIRECTIONS

Combine almond milk & coconut milk in a sauce pot. Grate in or add your turmeric & ginger, add in dried spices and simmer for 15 minutes. Turn it off and let sit with a lid on it. Filter through a tea strainer or something similar, and serve. You can make a large pot and store in the refrigerator to be heated later.

I made a couple of changes:
Instead of almond milk I used cashew and it worked very well.
I chose to put my ginger in the smoothie machine with 1 cup of cashew milk, the spices, and 1 teaspoon of coconut oil.  I blended the ingredients so the ginger would be fine enough that I wouldn’t need to filter it out.
After blending I combined everything on the stover per the instructions.
I added a dash of pepper, to increase the bioavailability of the turmeric to be more bioavailable.

I was impressed with how creamy it was!  I highly recommend trying this if you’re fighting any sort of inflammation.

 

Why drink a golden milk latte?

Turmeric has been used for centuries for its natural ability to decrease inflammation in the body.  There are numerous studies showing the benefits of turmeric for many illnesses.  I have been taking turmeric for years to help combat the effects of inflammation from Multiple Sclerosis.  Be sure to add pepper to your golden milk, as the piperine in black pepper improves the efficacy of the curcumin in turmeric.  Our livers want to process the turmeric very quickly, but black pepper will slow down that response from the liver, allowing the turmeric to have a far greater effect on our bodies.  Studies show that as little as 1/4 tsp with a tablespoon of turmeric can boost efficacy by as much as 2000%!
